| Prior to February 2005, airlines were governed by a charter of conduct which was later enforced by legislation in 1991 to provide compensation to passengers in the event of denied boarding. However, this legislation was limited and did not provide cover for passengers who were downgraded, delayed or travelled on Charter flights. In February 2005, EC Regulation was implemented to encompass the above and provide more extensive protection for passengers affected by downgrades, delays, denied boarding and cancellations. The arrival of EC Regulation 261/2004 enforced passenger rights and ensures airlines provide a financial settlement to their inconveniences. | |||||||
| Do I have a Claim? | |||||||
| If you have been delayed, cancelled, denied boarding, downgraded or rerouted, you may be entitled to compensation under the EC Regulations 261/2004. Passengers who have travelled from the EU or; to the EU on an EU carrier after February 2005 may be entitled to compensation up to EURO 600 (£400 est) per person depending upon your circumstances.
